(I can't do it yet but I'm posting this now while it's fresh in my mind but will update later if it works.) But if these files don't exist on someone's system, how would they fix their Firefox? This seems like a major flaw to have a dependency on a file that may not exist on the system. However, I searched my system and I have 3 copies of this file - in C:\Windows\system32, in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.VCLibs.140.00.UWPDesktop_6.0_圆4_8wekyb3d8bbwe\Īnd in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.VCLibs.140.00.UWPDesktop_0.0_圆4_8wekyb3d8bbwe\ so it's not exactly clear which one to use except I don't think the 32-bit one will help.

So, for anyone who also does not have a spare copy of this file, you may need to find a friend with Windows 10 and copy the file from their system.

Nobody as far as I know uninstalled any redistributables or runtimes - my friend never uninstalls anything. The problem is this file does not exist on her system anywhere. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." I got this same error during installation "firefox.exe - System Error The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. She had the same problem of Firefox not loading any websites so I tried refreshing and then reinstalling Firefox v80. Trying to resolve this problem for a friend. I'm therefore unable to change any settings within Firefox. This includes websites (and help/utility pages (about:config). When I run Firefox.exe, it seems to load the program, but any address I type in fails to begin loading. Which VC++ Redist Package should I be re-installing? Ideally, I should be able to just get a copy of VCRUNTIME140_1.dll and place it where Firefox is looking for it. I then tried re-installing the "Visual C++ 2008" and "Visual C++ 2015-2019" packages in an attempt to restore that DLL, but that had no effect after repeating the same steps above (clean uninstall, re-install). This includes websites ( and help/utility pages (about:config). The installer then appears to complete in the background, and the Firefox directory is created, along with the executable. Selecting "Restore Defaults" has no effect either way. Then, I ran the Firefox Installer, newly downloaded, and when running it, it gives the same error, "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found.

I uninstalled, following the clean install directions, and deleting the "Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/" directory. I then attempted to start Firefox, getting the error, "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. I was cleaning out my hard drive and deleting old installs of Microsoft Visual Studio Redistributable packages, and I almost certainly deleted the one that Firefox relies on.
